William P. "Bill" Bomar

American artist, 1919–1991
BiographyBill Bomar was a modern painter born in Texas. He studied at Cranbrook Art Academy before moving to New York, where he studied with John Sloan. Bomar was a neighbor of the Sloans in the Hotel Chelsea. He spent his summers in New Mexico, spending time with Sloan in Santa Fe and later settling in Taos. After WWII, he was part of the Fort Worth Circle of modern artists and began working in increasingly abstract style. Bomar is represented in many private and public collections including The Amon Carter Museum, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Texas.
