BiographyLorna Simpson was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1960 and received her undergraduate degree from the School of the Visual Arts, and her master of fine arts degree from the University of California, San Diego. Simpson is well known for her conceptual photography projects the explore notions of gender, identity, culture, and memory. The artist's work is included in major corporate and public collections throughout the United States and abroad and has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
