Adolf Dehn

American painter and printmaker, 1895–1968
BiographyBorn and raised in Waterville, Minnesota, Dehn studied at the Minneapolis School of Art before winning a scholarship to the Art Students League in New York. He refused to serve in World War I as a conscientious objector and was jailed for two years. After the war he went to Europe where he made lithographs of the café scene and caricatures of famous figures, which appeared in Vanity Fair and other magazines. After his return to the United States in 1929, Dehn also produced popular lithographs of landscapes and New York City subjects.
