Luis Jiménez (born 1940) was an American sculptor known for focusing on Hispanic-American themes through his art. As a child, Jiménez worked in his father's neon sign studio and went on to study art and architecture at the University of Texas in Austin and El Paso. After earning his BA in 1964, he moved to New York City to work at Ciudad Universitaria, Mexico City, D.F. in 1966. Jiménez was best known for his polychrome fiberglass, due to their bright, colorful undulating surfaces. Jiménez also created worked with prints, creating color lithographs and colored-pencil drawings. In 1998, he received a Distinguished Alumni award from the University of Texas. Jiménez passed on June 13, 2006 due to an accident installing his sculpture Blue Mustang at the Denver International Airport.
