Lawrence Beall SmithAmerican painter, 1909–1995

Smith was an American painter, illustrator, sculptor, and printmaker. He is probably best known for the many lithographs he produced for Associated American Artists from the 1930s to the 1970s. Smith studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. He produced posters and served as a combat artist during World War II, and his works are in the art collections of the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Navy.

Smith's art is also in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Addison Gallery of American Art, Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University, the University of Chicago, the University of Minnesota, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the National Gallery of Art, and the Library of Congress.
