Bob Stocksdale

American woodturner, 1913–2003
BiographyBob Stockdale was known for his unique wooden bowls, which are in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Royal Scottish Museum in Edinburgh, UK. He first started working with wood during his childhood in rural Indiana, and he began turning bowls while doing forestry work in Michigan as a conscientious objector to World War II. After the war, Stocksdale settled in Berkeley, California where he would remain for the rest of his life. He was the recipient of the American Craft Council's Gold Medal in 1995, as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Association of Woodturners.
