Beatrice Wood

American ceramicist, 1893–1998
BiographyAmerican potter, Beatrice Wood was born in 1893 in San Francisco and raised in New York. She moved to Paris to study at the Academy Julian at an early age and continued her studies in Giverny. Following a brief acting career, Wood was introduced to Marcel Duchamp and it was through Duchamp that the artist became involved with the New York Dada group of artists. Wood became interested in ceramics, studying with Glen Lukens in the late 1930s and established her home and studio in Ojai, California in 1947 where she worked and lived until her death in 1998.
