Mark Lindquist

American sculptor in wood, artist, author, and photographer, born 1949
BiographyMark Lindquist is known for his sculpture and woodturning. After initially working in ceramics, Lindquist gradually introduced Asian ceramic techniques into his woodturning and became admired for his technical advancements in the medium of wood. His wood sculpture is known for its embracing of organic irregularities; with his father Melvin, he pioneered the concept of spalted wood art, or wood that is partially decomposed. He was the subject of Mark Lindquist: Revolution in Wood, a retrospective held at the Renwick Gallery in 1996, and has received fellowships and awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, the MacDowell Colony, and the American Craft Council.
