Nicholas Kripal

American sculptor, 1953–2016
BiographyNicholas Kripal received his undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and his master of fine arts degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Kripal served as head of the ceramics program at the Tyler School of Art where be taught from 1985 to 2016, and he co-founded the Crane Arts Building in Philadelphia. He received numerous fellowships from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, was the recipient of a 1999 Pew Fellowship in the Arts, received a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, and served as Artist-in-Residence at the La Napoule Art Foundation in France. Kripal's site-specific sculptures can be found at the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine in New York, St. Patrick Church in Indianapolis, and other religious centers throughout the United States and abroad, and his work is included in the public collections of the Delaware Art Museum, The University Museum at Southern Illinois University, and the Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art.
