Ethel Magafan

American painter, 1916–1993
BiographyMagafan was born in Chicago and raised in Colorado Springs, where she studied at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center with Frank Mechau, Boardman Robinson, and Peppino Mangravite. During the Great Depression, she worked as a muralist, eventually receiving seven government commissions. In the 1950s, Magafan exhibited around the nation and was represented by Ganso Gallery in New York. She regularly submitted work to the annual exhibitions at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. In 1951, the Delaware Art Museum purchased a painting by Magafan from the PAFA Annual.
