William Austin KienbuschAmerican painter, 1914–1980

William Kienbusch was born in New York and graduated from Princeton University. He studied at the Art Students League, the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, at the Academie Colarossi in Paris, and with Abraham Rattner. Kienbusch is best known for his gestural canvases of the Maine landscape. He taught at the Brooklyn Museum School and is included in the collections of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and the Smithsonian American Art Museum, among others.
