Stephen Attinger

American painter, 1912–2007
BiographySelf-taught artist and Delaware native, Stephen Attinger was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey and served in the Second World War. He received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and education from Tusculum College, a master’s degree in education from Rutgers University, a master’s degree in philosophy from the University of Delaware, and he completed doctoral work at the University of Pennsylvania. Attinger taught at Valley Forge Military Academy and at public schools in Georgia and Delaware, including the Mary C. I. Williams School. The artist exhibited throughout Delaware and in Europe, and a retrospective was presented at the Blue Ball Barn in Wilmington from October 14–November 13, 2015 and his exhibit, Exploring Everyman: The Art of Stephen S. Attinger was held at the Chris White Gallery in Wilmington for the month of September 2016.
