Sam Francis

Sam Francis received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of California at Berkeley and traveled extensively through Mexico, Japan, and Europe following graduation in 1950. The artist was greatly influenced by Abstract Expressionism and combined the treatment of the canvas of that movement with an interest in mysticism and Eastern philosophy.
