Lennart Anderson

American painter, 1928–2015
BiographyLennart Anderson studied drawing and painting as a young person at the Detroit Institute of Arts and the school of the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts. He obtained his bachelor of fine arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1950 and his master's degree in fine arts from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1952. Anderson moved to New York to study at the Art Students League and began exhibiting in that city in the early 1960s. He is best known for his realist painting, the first museum exhibition of which was held at the Delaware Art Museum in 1992. Anderson taught at Pratt Institute, the Art Students League, Yale University, and Brooklyn College where he taught from 1974 to 2004. The artist was represented by Davis & Langdale Company since 1974 and in 1977 he was included into the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
