Stanley AndersonBritish engraver, etcher and painter, 1884–1966

Alfred Charles Stanley Anderson CBE (1884-1966). British engraver, etcher and watercolor painter. Early training was received in evening classes at the Bristol School of Art. Apprenticed as a heraldic engraver during which time he learned to etch on metal. Won and engraving scholarship from the British Institution. Largely self-taught. Joined the Royal Society of Painters-Etchers and Engravers as an Associate in 1910; Fellow, 1923. In 1925 he became engraving tutor at Goldsmith’s, London. From 1930-52 he was a member of the Engraving Faculty at the British School at Rome. Was elected Associate of the Royal Academy in 1934; full member, 1941.
