BiographyMark Tobey was born in Centreville, Wisconsin, in 1890 and attended art classes at an early age at the Art Institute of Chicago. The artist travelled extensively and taught in Seattle and England in addition to serving as guest critic at Yale University. Tobey's abstract compositions are influenced by the artist's interest in Persian and Arabic script and Chinese calligraphy as well as his embrace of the Baha'i World Faith.
