Mark Harris

American artist, poet, activist, and priest, born 1940
BiographyPoet, priest, and artist Mark Harris aligns his commitment to social, political, and environmental activism with his artist practice. Harris served as the chaplain at the University of Delaware, beginning in 1972, and has been priest associate at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Lewes, Delaware for the last 15 years. His printmaking developed from his poetry when he began to set the type for his work and then illustrate the poems. Harris has travelled extensively, attending an artist residency in Puebla, Mexico in 2017 and serving as resident artist at the National School of the Arts in Port-au-Prince, Haiti in 2015. Harris was born in Mobile, Alabama in 1940, and he holds a doctorate in Ministry.
