Robert Cottingham

American painter and printmaker, born 1935
BiographyBrooklyn-born Robert Cottingham received his bachelor of fine arts degree from Pratt Institute in 1963. He began his career working at the advertising firm of Young and Rubicam in York and was shortly transferred to Los Angeles in 1964. Cottingham began exhibiting his paintings of the contemporary American scene at O. K. Harris Gallery in the early 1970s, showing alongside other photorealist painters. The artist is well known for his paintings and prints of facades, signs, train cars, and other objects ubiquitous to the urban landscape.
