Oliver Hall

British painter, 1869–1957
BiographyOliver Hall was a landscape painter (oil and watercolor) and etcher whose subjects were largely either rugged moorland or Spanish. He was enrolled at the Royal College of Art from 1887–90; took evening classes at the Westminster and Lambeth Schools of Art; and studied privately with D. A. Williamson of Liverpool, working at Broughton-in-Furness, and with W. L. Windus. He travelled extensively in Spain, France and Italy. He began exhibiting etchings at the Royal Academy 1890. In 1900 his work was included at the Exposition Universelle in Paris. He was a member of the Society of Twenty-five English Painters and was elected an associate of the Royal Academy in 1920 and full member in 1927. He had his first one-man exhibition at the Dowdeswell Gallery in1898. He lived at Pulborough, Sussex, and later at Ulverston, Lancashire, where he died 5 December 1957.
