Seong MoyAmerican painter and printmaker, 1921– 2013

A painter and printmaker, Seong Moy was born in 1921 near Canton, China before emigrating to the United States at 10 years old. At 13, Moy was introduced to the WPA Federal Art Project School's art classes and studied art. He later would attend the St. Paul School of Art and study under the tutelage of Cameron Booth.

In 1941, Moy moved to New York City and was awarded a scholarship to study at the Art Students League of New York and the Hoffman School of Art. After serving time in the United States Army Air Forces, Moy experimented with printmaking at Atelier 17 and the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop in New York.

For over forty years, Moy was a professor at Cooper Union, Pratt Graphic Arts Center, Vassar College, and many other institutions. Most notable of Moy's work are his woodcuts inspired by Chinese classics and combined with the formal techniques of Abstract Expressionism.
