Don Nice

American painter, 1932–2019
BiographyDon Nice obtained a teaching certificate from the University of Southern California and following two years in the United States Army, spent time abroad in Italy studying painting. Nice returned to Minneapolis in 1959 and taught at the School of Art before completing a master of fine arts degree from Yale University in 1963. The artist was best known for his large-scale figurative paintings that address environmental concerns. Nice began exhibiting in group exhibitions throughout the United States in the mid-1950s, and solo shows of his paintings have been presented by Nancy Hoffman Gallery, the Delaware Art Museum, and the Hudson River Museum, among others. The artist's work is included in numerous public collections such as the Art Institute of Chicago, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
