Charles Ross obtained a bachelor's degree in mathematics in 1960 and a master's in fine art in 1962, both from the University of California at Berkeley. His first solo exhibition was in 1961 at the Dilexi Gallery in San Francisco and in 1963, the artist spent a year in New York working with dancers associated with the Judson Dance Theater. Ross has continued to exhibit throughout the United States and abroad and has permanent installations at the National Museum of the American Indian and the Plaza of the Americans in Dallas, Texas, among other public institutions. The artist has incorporated the movement of the sun and stars into his work for the past 40 years, creating books, films, paintings, prints, and site-specific installations tracking celestial phenomena.
