Alfred Conteh was born in Fort Valley, Georgia and obtained his undergraduate degree from Hampton University and his master of fine art degree from Georgia Southern University. His paintings and prints explore the African diaspora and the ways in which African Americans navigate systemic racism and economic disparity. The powerful portraits are commemorative in nature, documenting the individual's and communities' continual fight. Conteh participated in the 2019 Fountainhead Residency, and his work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions at Clark Atlanta University Art Museum, the David C. Driskell Center, and the California African American Museum. His work is included in numerous public and private collections such as the Weisman Art Museum, the Petrucci Family Foundation, and the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
