Label TextThis drawing of Rossetti, made upon his death on Easter Sunday, 1882. It was made by Frederic Shields, a close friend of the Rossetti's, who was with him at his death, at the request of his brother, William Michael. Death portraits were not considered unusual during the Victorian period, but instead would have been received as a respectful commemorative.
