Samuel Murray

American sculptor, 1869–1941
BiographySculptor Samuel Murray was a student, studio mate, and close friend of the painter Thomas Eakins. Born in Philadelphia, at age 17 he enrolled with Eakins at the Art Students' League of Philadelphia. He quickly became a favorite, and the sculptor became Eakins' assistant and in 1892 an instructor at the League. Murray and Eakins shared a studio and sometimes depicted the same models
