BiographyPortrait painter Frank Linton studied under Thomas Eakins at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and at the Art Students' League of Philadelphia. He then followed in Eakins' footsteps, traveling to Paris to study at the École des Beaux-Arts with Jean-Léon Gérôme and Léon Bonnat and at the Académie Julian. He returned to Philadelphia around 1896 and gained renown as a portrait painter. He exhibited at the National Academy of Design, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and Paris salons. In 1917 he had a solo exhibition at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.
