BiographyMurphy was born in Savannah, Georgia, to artists Lucile Desbouillons and Christopher Patrick Hussey Murphy, both well-known Savannah artists. He studied at the Art Students League in New York in the 1920s. Murphy divided his time between New York and Savannah. He exhibited widely in New York and was a founder of the Association of Georgia Artists. After 1930 he conducted his career from Savannah and continued to exhibit nationally. The Morris Museum of Art in Augusta, Georgia, has a large collection of his work.
