Sara Starekow Lisker

American fiber artist, 1918–1999
BiographyKnown for her work in the fiber and graphic arts, Sara Starekow Lisker emigrated from the Ukraine as a child and settled in Philadelphia, where she initially studied oil painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. After participating in the Works Progress Administration, she began working with fabric arts. Inspired by Indian textiles, she entered the University of the Arts to study fabric design. Her work is in the collections of the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City and has been exhibited widely throughout the city of Philadelphia, including at the Franklin Institute and Moore College of Art.
