Nancy Pyle McGee

American artist, designer, and administrator, born 1939
BiographyNancy Pyle McGee is known as a textile artist, designer, teacher, and administrator based in Philadelphia and later Florida. She studied at the University of the Arts, where she graduated in 1961, and earned a master's degree from Tyler School of Art. As a designer, she developed clothing made of specialized paper material from the Scott Paper Co., with whom she consulted, and she is considered to have designed the first paper dress—the Paper Caper—to be mass-produced. McGee was the chairwoman of the fashion department at the Tampa International Academy of Design and Technology (now closed) and taught at the Parsons School of Design in New York City and Moore College of Art and Design, where she also served as Director of Fashion Design and dean of faculty. McGee was also appointed to the Board of Directors of the Fashion Group of Philadelphia in 1970, and her work is in the collections of the Delaware Art Museum and Philadelphia Museum of Art, among others.
