James Wines

American architect, painter, draftsman, and sculptor, born 1932
BiographyJames Wines is best known for his dedication to architecture and environmental design. Born in Oak Park, Illinois, Wines studied at Syracuse University and won a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1962. In 1970, he founded the firm SITE (Sculpture in the Environment), which focuses on art, architecture, and the environment. SITE has completed numerous public and commercial projects across the United States, including the showrooms for the company Best Products. Wines has taught at New York University, Cooper Union, and Dartmouth College, among other institutions of higher learning, and received a Pulitzer Prize for Graphic Art in 1955.
