William Wegman

American artist, born 1943
BiographyWilliam Wegman is perhaps best known for his photographs and videos of dogs, Weimaraners specifically, which he began making in the early 1970s. Wegman received his undergraduate degree from the Massachusetts College on Art in 1965 and his master of fine art degree from the University of Illinois, Champagne-Urbana in 1967. From 1968 to 1970 Wegman taught at the University of Wisconsin, and in 1970 he moved to California. That same year Wegman got his first dog, Man Ray, who became well known through their many collaborations. Wegman's film and video works have appeared on Saturday Night Live and Sesame Street, and his work has been presented in numerous solo exhibitions throughout the United States and abroad.
