Morgan Dennis (1982-1960) was born in Boston, MA, whre he studied at the American School of Design. He was best known for his etchings and illustrations of dogs, which appeared in national magazines and in many advertisements, most famously those for Black & White whiskey. The latter featured black Scottish terriers and white West Highland White terriers. Based primarily on Long Island, NY, and Key West, FL, he worked in California in 1929-30. Dennis was also an author; his publications include Pup Himself (1943), Burlap (1945), and The Morgan Dennis Dog Book. He lectured on the subjects of etching and dogs. His name also appears as Burt Morgan Dennis.
