Scott BurtonAmerican sculptor and installation artist, 1939–1989

Scott Burton studied with Leon Berkowitz and Hans Hofmann before obtaining a Master of Fine Arts degree from New York University in 1963. Burton worked primarily as an installation and performance artist before shifting into minimalist sculpture in the late 1970s. By 1980 he was creating the indoor and outdoor monumental chair and bench forms he is perhaps best known for today. These artworks show his interest in the reinterpretation of furniture design as well as Burton's continued adherence to Minimalism.
