Martha Wilson

American artist and museum administrator, born 1947
BiographyMartha Wilson is an important feminist performance artist and founder of the New York non-profit space, Franklin Furnace, which has supported projects by artists such as Jenny Holzer, William Wegman, and Barbara Kruger. Within her own work, Wilson explores the construction of identity by altering her own appearance. Her documentation of this process is a means through which to understand physical and cultural limitations in the formation of identity.
