Label TextEleanor of Aquitaine (1122–1204) was the Queen of France and later Queen of England. Grace Hartigan’s painting, from a series entitled Great Queens and Empresses, was inspired by a book of historical paper dolls. The dual visions of Eleanor, in the painting and the book, perhaps reference her public and private lives.
