Grace Hartigan

American painter, 1922–2008
BiographyGrace Hartigan was influenced by the work of Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning, embracing Abstract Expressionism early in her career. She left New York, settling in Baltimore in 1959, and incorporated representational imagery into her abstract canvases. The result is an exploration of well-known modern and historical figures rendered in a colorful, painterly style.
