Tom BostelleAmerican painter, sculptor, and printmaker, 1921–2005

A native of Chester County, Pennsylvania, Tom Bostelle was influenced by the work of Paul Cezanne and the Abstract Expressionist painters Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning. The artist studied briefly at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and, in addition to exhibiting regularly throughout the region, taught numerous local artists from his studio. His style is marked by a dark palette and expressionistic brushwork, and the artist's work in both painting and sculpture explores the landscape and the figure in silhouette.
