Label TextMalibu is the first painting in Grace Hartigan's American Places series, which the artist began during a visit to California in the fall of 1986. Hartigan's continued interest in combining abstraction and figuration results in the three discernable figures being partially obscured by large brushstrokes and splatters of paint.
