Beth Van Hoesen

American printmaker, 1926–2010
BiographyBeth Van Hoesen (1926–2010) was an important San Francisco Bay Area printmaker. Van Hoesen studied first at Stanford University, receiving a degree in fine arts, and later under painters David Park (1911–1960) and Clyfford Still (1904–1980) at the San Francisco Art Institute. The strength of Van Hoesen’s work was acknowledged quite early in her career with one of her first solo exhibitions organized in 1959 by the de Young Museum in San Francisco. Later shows were presented at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art.
