John "Crash" Matos

American, born 1961
BiographyJohn Matos was born in 1961 and raised in the Bronx, New York. He adopted the moniker "Crash" while a teenager and in the 1980s, became involved with the transition of graffiti into an art gallery setting. In 1980, Matos curated Graffiti Art Success for America at Fashion MODA, introducing the style to a greater audience. In addition to exhibiting in numerous solo and group exhibitions, Matos has received commissions for luxury product design and mural installations.
