Tyrone MitchellAmerican sculptor, born 1944

Tyrone Mitchell received his training at the New York Studio School and the Art Students League. Influenced by his study of the Dogon culture, Mitchell creates masterfully carved wooden sculptures that convey the influence of African art. The artist has had solo exhibitions at The Bronx Museum of Art and the Newark Museum, among others, and has created outdoor installations throughout New York City. Mitchell has taught at Bard College and Hunter College and is currently a sculpture professor at Queens College in New York.
