BiographyBest known for his humorous cartoons in Le Charivari, Paul Gavarni also published in L'Illustration and illustrated novels by Honoré de Balzac and Eugène Sue. Garvarni's cartoons poked fun at the morés and pretensions of various social classes. His work was widely admired by American graphic artists and illustrators, including John Sloan and Everett Shinn.
