Henriette Wyeth

American painter, 1907–1997
BiographyBorn in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, Henriette Wyeth specialized in still life and portrait painting. She was the first child of illustrator N.C. Wyeth. She studied with her father before attending the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. She married Peter Hurd, a painter who had come to study with her father, and they relocated to New Mexico. Henriette Wyeth had a successful career as a portrait painter, winning commissions to paint such notables as actress Helen Hayes, writer Paul Horgan, and First Lady Pat Nixon. Her paintings are in the collections of the Brandywine River Museum, the National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institution in Washington, and the Roswell Museum and Art Center, New Mexico.
