Richard Joseph Anuskiewicz
American painter, 1930–2020
BiographyRichard Joseph Anuskiewicz was born in Erie, Pennsylvania to Polish immigrants. The artist began his study at an early age and obtained a bachelor's degree from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1953. In 1955, Anuskiewicz earned his master's degree from Yale University, having studied under Josef Albers. The artist moved to New York City and began exhibiting with The Contemporary Galleries in 1959 and in 1960, the Museum of Modern Art acquired its first painting by the artist for the collection. Anuskiewicz is considered to be one of the leading artists of the Op art movement.
