Craig Kauffman

American painter and sculptor, 1932–2010
BiographyCraig Kauffman was born in in 1932 in Los Angeles and began studying architecture at the University of Southern California in 1950. He transferred to the University of California, Los Angles to study painting and completed both his undergraduate and master's degrees there. Kauffman is best known for his glossy, industrial plastic, wall-mounted sculptures that align with minimalist trends in response to Abstract Expressionism.

His work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Tate Modern in London, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. His paintings are considered to be “the first evidence of a Los Angeles sensibility," according to critic Peter Plagens.
