Paul Wiesenfeld was born in Los Angeles, California in 1942 and studied first at Chouinard Art Institute (now CalArts) before obtaining a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Los Angeles. He attended the Yale University Summer School of Art in 1962, studied abroad at the Kunstakademie Munchen from 1964–1966, and completed his master of fine arts degree at Indiana University Bloomington in 1968. Wiesenfeld taught briefly at the University at Buffalo before moving abroad to live and work in Landshut, Bavaria from 1973 until his death in 1990. During his lifetime, the artist's work garnered numerous solo exhibitions and awards, and his paintings are included in the permanent collections of the Delaware Art Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Saint Louis Art Museum, among others.
