Olaf Skoogfors

American artist, metalsmith, and educator, 1930–1975
BiographyOlaf Skoogfors was an American artist, metalsmith, and educator who immigrated to the United States from Sweden. He studied at the Philadelphia Museum's School of Art and the School for American Crafts in Rochester, New York. Skoogfors joined the faculty at the Philadelphia College of Art (now University of the Arts), and his work is included in the collections of the Delaware Art Museum, Philadelphia Museum of Art, and Smithsonian American Art Museum, among others. Skoogfors combined elements of abstract art and classical aesthetics in his jewelry, and received awards from the Contemporary Jewelry International and Tiffany. A posthumous retrospective of his work, "Olaf Skoogfors: 20th Century Goldsmith," was held at the Renwick Gallery in 1979.
