Joyce J. Scott

Joyce J. Scott is a sculptor, installation artist, jewelry maker, performance artist and weaver, taking aesthetic inspiration from African and Native American art traditions. She is known for addressing social and political themes of racism and sexism in her practice. Born and raised in Baltimore, Scott attended Maryland Institute College of Art and the Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Scott is a recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship (2016) and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship (1980), among other honors. She is represented in the collections of the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Museum of Art and Design in New York City, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, among others.
