Albert A. PaleyAmerican goldsmith, designer, and modernist metal sculptor, born 1944

Alfred A. Paley is known for his sculpture and metalwork. Born in Philadelphia, he earned an undergraduate degree from the Tyler School of Art, where he learned jewelry-making from Stanley Lechtzin. After receiving a master of fine arts degree in goldsmithing, he began to expand his repertoire to include functional metal objects, public sculpture, and architectural works, including the portal gates of the Renwick Gallery in 1974. Paley is the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Institute of Architects and received a gold medal from the American Craft Association.
