George Constant

American painter, etcher, and illustrator, 1892–1978, born in Greece
BiographyBorn and raised in Greece, Constant moved to the United States as a young man, studying at the School of Fine Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, and the Art Institute of Chicago. He helped start a modern art class at Chicago's Hull House and taught at the Dayton Art Institute before moving to New York City in 1922. He joined the Society of Independent Artists where he befriended the painter John Sloan and the art critic and artist Walter Pach.
